APAA Summer Theatre Camp
Our annual Summer Theatre Camps are back!
We can’t wait to see all the kids that come through the camp this year. It’s always a joy and so encouraging to see kids leave at the end of the summer with success under their belts and hungry for more. Whether it be the acting, dancing, or singing that appealed to them the most, we are just glad to see their horizons expanding and the arts continue on in the next generation.
In our previous post, we talked about different reasons why you should send your kids to summer camp. If that wasn’t enough, we have more.
1. Community and Collaboration
Instead of moping around the house, your child gets to leave the house to make new friends and spend time with them. Over the summer, they’re at home all the time now that school is out, and you could probably use a break too.
When children have friends and community in life, they always do better socially and emotionally. And as they learn to act, dance, and sing, they’re never doing it on their own. They begin to collaborate and learn what it’s like to work with others to accomplish something. This is a great skill to learn for all of life.
In order to do anything successfully in life or change the world, you can’t do it alone. Two or more is always better than one!
2. Discipline and Self-Control
I’m sure we all struggle with that thin line between giving kids freedom and giving them responsibility. Through Theatre Summer Camp, kids will learn self-control and discipline will be instilled in them. Even in something often seen as fun like singing, dancing, and acting, it requires hard work and dedication even when you don’t feel like it.
So maybe after they go to Theatre Summer Camp and learn these valuable life lessons, maybe they’ll be better about taking out the trash, cleaning up their room, and taking a shower. Because they’ll see hard work, even when you don’t feel like it, leads to a great payoff.
Then they’ll be able to carry on with this in life to become great employees at a job. They’ll think about others around them, the community they work with and have to collaborate with, and then they’ll put in the time and dedication because they learned the value of honoring community and how hard work leads to a great benefit.
3. Better Communicating
There’s no doubt about it; music and acting increase vocabulary for an individual. Especially when it comes to words related to emotion and learning to express oneself. This will be so much better off for you in their teenage years and on into life.
As your child goes through the struggles and woes of life, they’ll be better equipped to be able to communicate and talk about how they’re feeling and learn that expressing themselves is not something that they need to hide.
4. Better Performance at School
As your child experiences time in the arts, their creative minds and imaginations will expand. This will lead to better reading comprehension while in school and will benefit them in their writings as well.
Undoubtedly they will be faced with challenges and struggles when they are in theatre and will have to figure out how to cope, and problem solve. Learning these problem-solving skills will definitely help them in school when it comes to math and science.
Expanding your child’s interest in the arts by letting them get involved and encouraging them to continue in theatre will grow your child as an individual in almost every aspect, especially in their academic career.
