Love theater? Asheville is a breeding ground for some of the best live theatres in the region. There is a wide variety of theatre companies that cater to everyone, from families to adults. We believe that theater should be appreciated over the course of your life, including as a child. 

Asheville has a plethora of performances coming up this season, and we have put together a list of our favorites!

Live Theater Performances in Asheville This Holiday Season

1. Elf The Musical

No story is quite like David Berenbaum's Buddy The Elf. A story about misfits and fitting in, Elf The Musical is a musical take on the holiday film Elf. It makes you laugh out loud and cry, and it will make you want to spread holiday cheer. From December 2 through December 18, you may see this performance at the Asheville Community Theater theater on E Walnut Street.

2. The Nutcracker

Since it is the holiday season, there are so many versions of the well-loved holiday ballet by Tchaikovski The Asheville Ballet, one of several ballet groups showcasing their rendition of the full-length classical holiday tradition, will perform four performances at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts from December 9 through December 11. It's the Nutcracker! 

On December 20th, there will be two performances of Magic of Christmas Ballet in the Thomas Wolf Auditorium at Harrahs Cherokee Center.

3. UNCA Drama Program

Asheville is home to the incredible UNC-Asheville, whose drama program puts on incredible plays throughout the year! Currently, they have several upcoming shows, including “Celebrating Black Excellence” and “Electra by Euripides.” Check out their website to learn more about upcoming shows.

4. Asheville Performing Arts Academy

Asheville Performing Arts Academy is a school centered around studying performance arts such as music, dance, and drama. We are dedicated to the art of teaching and the teaching of the arts, so we provide instruction and educational opportunities that are of the highest caliber. 

From the outflow of this education comes an incredible variety of shows such as Rent, Shrek Jr The Musical, and Willy Wonka Jr., just to name a few.
