Year-Long Program for Beginning/Intermediate Artists
The Prep Program is a pre-conservatory style program for those students who are excited to dive deeper into musical theatre. Each Prep Program student takes a variety of classes to help develop the groundwork for further arts education. This program is designed for beginning/intermediate artists in Elementary and Middle School.

THE PROFESSIONAL PERFORMING ARTS CLASSROOM
Students take music, acting, and dance classes every week with various master classes focusing on topics like audition, improv, technical theatre, and specialized dance classes offered at different times during the semester.
HIGH QUALITY THEATRE FOR YOUNG ARTISTS
Students in the Prep Program have a variety of performance opportunities throughout the year including cabarets, a play, and full length musicals.
THE PREP PROGRAM IS A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED PROGRAM.
The APAA has won many awards in Ensemble Work, Choreography, Acting, and more! We also have alumni studying and working across the country as professional artists and arts administrators.
How to Join the Prep Program
WHO IS ELIGIBLE
The Prep Program at the APAA is designed to prepare beginning and intermediate artists in 1st through 8th grade for the Prep Program. Anyone with a love of musical theatre is welcome to sign up!
Students will be broken up into smaller groups based on both past experience as well as age. Once in 6th grade or based on teacher’s recommendations, students are eligible for the Prep program.
COST
Tuition for Prep Program is $2,100.00 for the year + $150 Non-RefundableRegistration Fee. This includes weekly classes and all of the production costs for the different shows. There are additional immersions and workshops offered throughout the year for an additional cost.
WORK STUDY
The Asheville Performing Arts Academy provides a work study program for those families interested in financial aid. All families who receive financial aid are required to assist in operations at the APAA in some capacity. Duties will be determined once aid has been distributed.
Some work study opportunities may include but are not limited to:
- Helping clean up classrooms
- Participating in set builds
- Load-in/load-outs
- Selling tickets
- Marking
