Asheville Theatre Program
There is so much to love about living in Asheville. The city is known for the outdoors. We are surrounded by the tallest mountains on the East Coast and hundreds of thousands of acres of national forest. There are thousands of miles of hiking trails to explore and by which to be inspired.
As much as we are known for being a hub for outdoor adventurers, western North Carolina is known for art.
There is an abundance of art galleries in the River Arts District and throughout the region. We have some of the best music venues in the state, and there is always a great show rocking out somewhere in Buncombe County.
At Asheville Performing Arts Academy, we provide the area with incredible children’s theater programs.
Here is what you need to know about our Asheville theater programs.
Asheville Theater Programs - APAA
Some of our theater programs include:
The Company Program
The Company is a one-on-one pre-professional performing arts conservatory for intermediate/advanced artists in Middle and High School that want to further their study in American Musical Theatre.
The Company is for rising sixth through twelfth-grade students who enjoy performing on stage. This conservatory includes classes in dance, acting, and music. Students in the Company also act in a fully staged musical and attend theatrical performances and conferences.
The Prep Program
The Prep Program is a pre-conservatory style program for those interested in diving even deeper into musical theater, potentially even pursuing a career in it. Each Prep Program student takes several classes to lay the foundation for a future in the arts.
This curriculum is for elementary and middle school students who are beginners or intermediate artists.
- Students in the Prep Program have a variety of performance opportunities throughout the year, including cabarets, a play, and full-length musicals.
- Many awards have been given to the APAA for Ensemble Work, Choreography, Acting, and more! We also have alumni working as professional artists and arts administrators all around the country.
- Who is eligible for the Prep Program? As it is intended to prepare beginner and intermediate artists in grades 1 through 8 for the arts, anyone who likes musical theater is encouraged to participate!
Theatre Kidz! Program
We will be studying every aspect of the stage in our preschool to early elementary program, including prop-building, dancing, singing, and acting. We will nurture their love of theatre with new friends and experience the joys of storytelling, whether you have a little performer destined for Broadway or just a little theatrical aficionado!
